The diary was wrote for a while with no intention of publishing, a gift for Anne’s 13th birthday. After less than a month from receiving it she was in hiding as Nazi’s were taking Jew’s away for ‘labour’ in the concentration camps. Well aware of the fate ahead of them, going into hiding seemed the only reasonable option. Listening to daily radio broadcasts resulted in the overhearing of a call for diaries and letters wrote by Jew’s in hiding to be published after the war had finished. Some changes and additions were made to the diary whilst in hiding and the rest of writing carried on as usual.

The main thing I noticed in reading this is how well written it actually is, even to the point where I refused to believe a 13-15 year old wrote it. Throughout reading you can’t help but be amazed at how well she’s able to convey her thoughts and feelings through words. You gain a real understanding of how her mind works and, I must admit, that it seemingly works better than the majority of females I know… all of whom passed the age of 15 many years ago. I say this not just as an uncalled shot at stupid females I know but to highlight the qualities you’ll see when reading this brilliant book. The lack of self pity, the displeasure of pointless quarrels held by the adults, the lack of ignorance on many parts, her morals are beyond most comparison and the almost unworldy upkeep of spirit is truly an inspiration.

I advise this book to anyone. I’d seen the film and decided to check the book reviews on Amazon. Firstly, I wanted to read how life must have been living in confinement among two families and another Jew in hiding for 2 years without been able to leave the building, almost getting found out (families and people all around were found by the Nazi’s and taken from their homes or hiding), all while airplanes were flying by, air raid sirens going off, bombs dropping, machine guns firing, etc. The fact that nearly all the reviews I read commented on the extraordinary literature made me have to buy it. There were a few pages in there that were left out of the original but put back into the definitive edition, which I have, and made me feel a bit weird. That’s probably because I’m immature to be honest. But I’m sure if you’re a female you’ll be quite fine… It’s only a few pages from over 300 anyway.

Anne deals with adolescence, love, fear, tension, hope and the astonishing intellect that people so young can possess whilst adults who ‘know better’ discard such a thing and attribute them to something childish. From the many feelings and thoughts she ventures you cannot come away from reading this book without learning something new, and certainly not without first being drawn into it and spellbound. 

So if you’re a female you should go buy, read and love this book, you’ll not be dissappointed. If you’re a male then have the guts to go to HMV and buy the book entitled The Diary of a Young Girl like I did with no shame nor fear (of hot chicks behind the counter) because you know that the book is infact the product of literary genius! A book of great significance, and not one to be forgotten anytime soon.

I’ve decided to start back up my blog writings. I gave up for quite a while and need to get back into the swing of writing my usual shite again. This post is a good example of shite but I’ll get more creative soon enough. I’ve been reading plently recently but my writing over the months consist of around 4 pages of notes on numerous things that shall not be discussed.

I actually had a lot to write about last night when I’d decided to name my post ‘Bah Humbug!’. But the fucking internet connection in my room is a pile of cunt! So now I’ve started a blog I can’t be arsed to write and my radiator is cooking me alive. Erm, Goodbye.

I finished two books today that I was half way through. I would try and finish the Hunter S. Thompson book I’m on reading but I’m currently only 117 pages through the 622 page monster. It’s all good because it is a compilation of articles and such things he wrote so it doesn’t all need to be done in one go. You may or may not know (likely the latter) that I bought a shitload of books from my post office for 50p each. I bought and read many of them. But still I have 15 to read. That’s not all. It doesn’t include the 3 other books I have which I haven’t read. And that 600 page Dawkins book I’ve yet to read. And A Clockwork Orange which I got from Amazon yesterday. Or the Ender’s Game book by Orson Scott Card that I ordered today. WHEN WILL THE MADNESS END?!?!

I don’t know and hope not soon. But I should really catch up on reading the books I’ve actually got first. Though it’s my birthday in less than an hour and when I get some money I know I’m putting some into my ever decreasing account and I’ll be ordering more books off Amazon. I think I may have to resort to spending some of my money on drugs and alcohol to make sure the money is spent wisely.
